Bantwala, September 21: A team of miscreants attacked a labourer and tried to kill him by setting him ablaze by pouring kerosene, near Narsha at Kolnadu village in the taluk on Thursday night.
The victim is identified as Bheemesh (48), of Muttalagere in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district. The victim said that the miscreants have attacked him as he has given a statement against them in an old case. Bheemesh was attacked when he was at the farm house of industrialist Suleiman Haji at the village.
On Thursday at 9.35 pm, Bheemesh was having his dinner along with his wife Kusuma at the farm house at KP Bail. At this time, local Abdul Khader asked Bheemesh to come to the gate. When Bheemesh reached the gate, around 15 members team attacked him. Kadu Mustafa, Puttu alias Adrama, Kadmar Abdul Kareem, KP Bail Khader and others thrashed him black and blue and tried to set him ablaze after pouring kerosene on him, Bheemesh said in his complaint.
When the miscreants were about to lit the fire, Bheemesh escaped from the group and took a shelter in a nearby house. But the miscreants reached the house with the lethal weapons. Noticing it, Bheemesh took the help of a local person and reached his owner’s house. Later, he was admitted to Vittla community hospital and a complaint was lodged at Vittla police station.
A case was registered against those miscreants a year ago on charges of demolishing the compound wall around the land of the Singari Suleiman at Narsha and now, the case is in the court. Bheemesh was the main witness for this case. As he was the prime witness, the miscreants have decided to finish him, it is said.

New Delhi (PTI): The Central Reserve Police Force has dismissed from service its jawan Munir Ahmed for "concealing" his marriage with a Pakistani woman as his action was found to be detrimental to national security, official sources said Saturday.
The jawan was last posted with the 41st battalion of paramilitary CRPF, the lead internal security force of the country.
He was "dismissed from service" under the rules that do not require conducting an enquiry, official sources told PTI.
"Munir Ahmed has been dismissed from service with immediate effect for concealing his marriage to a Pakistani national and knowingly harbouring her beyond the validity of her visa.
"His actions were found to be in violation of service conduct and detrimental to national security," CRPF spokesperson Deputy Inspector General (DIG) M Dhinakaran said.
Ahmed's marriage with Menal Khan came to light after India asked Pakistani nationals to leave the country as part of diplomatic measures taken in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 persons were killed.
The two got married over a video call on May 24 last year.
A CRPF probe found the jawan had "not intimated" his wedding and her overstaying in India to the authorities concerned.
