Karwar: In a bid to accommodate the surge in passenger traffic during the Holi festival and the upcoming summer season, Konkan Railway has announced special bi-weekly trains on the Udhna Junction – Mangaluru Junction route. These special services will run from March to June 2025.

According to a release from the railways, Train No. 09057 Udhna Jn. – Mangaluru Jn. Bi-Weekly Special will depart from Udhna Junction at 8:00 pm every Wednesday and Sunday from March 2 to June 29, 2025. It will arrive at Mangaluru Junction the following day at 7:45 pm.

Meanwhile, Train No. 09058 Mangaluru Jn. – Udhna Jn. Bi-Weekly Special will leave Mangaluru Junction at 10:10 pm every Monday and Thursday from March 3 to June 30, 2025, reaching Udhna Junction at 11:05 pm the next day.

The train will halt at Valsad, Vapi, Palghar, Vasai Road, Bhivandi Road, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Sawarda, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road, Thivim, Karmali, Madgaon Jn., Canacona, Karwar, Ankola, Gokarna Road, Kumta, Murdeshwar, Bhatkal, Mookambika Road Byndoor, Kundapura, Udupi, Mulki & Surathkal stations.

The composition of these trains includes 22 coaches, consisting of one 2-Tier AC coach, five 3-Tier AC coaches, 12 sleeper coaches, two general coaches, and two SLR coaches.

Koppal: Tension prevailed in Halwarti village of Koppal taluk after a clash reportedly broke out between members of Dalit and upper-caste communities over the hoisting of an Ambedkar flag during the Beeralingeshwara fair.

According to police, a verbal argument between youths from the two communities escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to unrest in the village.

In a related development, it has been alleged that members of the upper-caste community entered the house of a Dalit youth, identified as Gavisiddappa Hosamani, damaged the door and vandalised the front portion of the house.

As a precautionary measure, additional police personnel have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order.

Police said a complaint has been registered at the Koppal Rural Police Station and five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. Further investigation is under way.
