Mangaluru: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the state government seeking details of action initiated against those who were found guilty of wrongdoing on December 19, 2019, when the local police gunned down two people during anti-CAA, NRC protests in the city.
The HC bench headed by Chief Justice A S Oka sought the report from the government while hearing a PIL filed by late freedom fighter HS Doreswamy, former Mangaluru city Corporation mayor Ashraf demanding the formation of SIT to investigate the police firing incident.
Advocate appearing for the government informed the court that the magisterial inquiry into the incident had concluded and the presiding officer Udupi DC Jagadeesh has submitted his report to the state government. He also submitted the report to the court in a closed envelope.
The court asked the government advocate about the action taken against the guilty based on the magisterial report. The advocate explained the government was studying the report and sought a time of two weeks. The court asked the state government to submit a report on its action plan before August 25.

San Francisco (AP): Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down from the job that he inherited from the late Steve Jobs, ending a nearly 15-year reign that saw the company's market value soar by more than $3.6 trillion during an iPhone-fueled era of prosperity.
Cook, 65, will turn the CEO duties to Apple's head of hardware engineering, John Tenus, on September 1 while remaining involved with the Cupertino, California, company as executive chairman. That's similar to the transitions made by Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Netflix's Reed Hastings after they ended their highly successful tenures as CEO.
Although he never shook the perception that he lacked Jobs' vision, Cook leveraged the popularity of the iPhone and other breakthroughs orchestrated by his predecessor to lift Apple to heights that seemed unfathomable when it was on the brink of bankruptcy during the mid-1990s.
