Kundapur: The body of a 23-year-old man, identified as Sharath Kumar from Sunnadahalli in KH Nagar, Bhadravathi taluk, Shivamogga district, was discovered in a decomposed state on Sunday morning after he had been washed away last week while visiting Arashina Gundi waterfall near Kollur.

Sharath had accompanied a friend to the Arishina Gundi falls on Sunday, July 23. At approximately 3:30 pm, while standing on a rock near the waterfall, he accidentally slipped and fell into the River Souparnika below. The powerful current of the river swept him away, leaving him untraceable.

The tragic incident was witnessed by Sharath's friend, who managed to capture the accident on his mobile phone and immediately informed the local police. The authorities promptly initiated a search and rescue operation, with efforts led by Kollur Sub-inspector Jayashri, Sudharani, and other personnel from Kollur Police Station, along with the assistance of forest officers, the SDRF team, and fire brigade teams from Udupi, Byndoor, and Kundapur.

Despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain, the search continued for a week, with teams braving incessant rain and leeches in the area while navigating through narrow stretches of road.

With the region experiencing a reduction in showers over the last couple of days, the water level in rivers receded, allowing the searchers to locate Sharath's body on Sunday morning. His remains were found in a hollow amidst rocks near the waterfall.
