Mangaluru, Nov 29: A two-day Mangaluru Lit Fest organised by Mangaluru Literary Foundation was inaugurated here on Friday by Jnanpith award-winning writer Chandrashekhar Kambar.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the nation was still enslaved by English even years after the British left.
"Writers should come up with works that help identify our uniqueness," he said.
The English system of education was enforced by the British with the objective of strengthening their rule, he said.
Research scholar and historian M Chidananda Murthy presided over the function while Chancellor of NITTE university N Vinay Hegde was the chief guest.
Kannada Sahitya Academy president B V Vasanth Kumar and Aarohi Research Foundation director M S Chaitra were also present.

Bengaluru: A special court for people’s representatives has sentenced Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of BJP leader Yogish Goudar.
The verdict was delivered by judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat. The court had earlier, on Wednesday, held all 17 accused guilty of murdering Goudar, while reserving the quantum of punishment.
On Friday, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to all the convicted persons in the case.
Yogish Goudar, a BJP member from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency in Dharwad district, was murdered in 2016.
