Sagara: Following a fight over an apparently trivial issue, a man is learned to have been assaulted by his friend in Muralli near Kargal in the taluk, and died on Wednesday night.

Thimmappa, 52, a resident of Muralli, was attacked by his friend Siddu, who has now been arrested by the police under charge of causing unnatural death.

Siddu, also a resident of Muralli, is said to have approached Thimmappa for help on Monday to recharge his mobile phone battery as there had been a power cut at his house. His friend, however, apparently refused to help.

This caused an argument between them, and Siddu is learned to have hit his friend with a stick.

Thimmappa got a blow on his eye too, but was taken to the primary health centre in Byakodu only the next day due to lack of transport facility, said sources. He was then admitted to the Sagara hospital and later McGANN Hospital in Shivamogga. Since his condition worsened in spite of the treatment at the hospitals, he was admitted to the district hospital, Udupi.

Thimmappa did not respond to the treatment in the Udupi hospital too, and died on Wednesday night, the sources added.
