Mangaluru: Heavy rain will continue to downpour the Dakshina Kannada district for at least three more days, the Meteorological Department informed. In the last few hours of heavy rain in the district has resulted in damages to at least nine houses.

The district has been witnessing heavy rains accompanied by winds in the last couple of days and is set to continue for another two days.

Several trees fell, apartments and houses were damaged in the last 24 hours.

People staying on the coastline have also been warned and urged to stay alert for the next 48 hours. Fishermen have also been asked to not venture into the sea during the time.

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday declared as "invalid" the arrest of NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha in a case under the anti-terror law, and directed that he be released from custody.

The order was issued by a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta.

According to the FIR, the news portal allegedly received huge funds from China to "disrupt the sovereignty of India" and cause disaffection against the country.

It also alleged that Purkayastha conspired with a group -- People's Alliance for Democracy and Secularism (PADS) -- to sabotage the electoral process during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
