Bengaluru: The High Court has ruled that Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College in Mangaluru must relinquish one management quota seat to the government as a penalty for admitting a student after the university's deadline. The order was issued in response to a petition filed by college student JK Sunil, who challenged the university's decision to reject his admission.

As part of the penalty, the Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College has been directed to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). Additionally, the college must submit a written undertaking stating that no future admissions will be made after the prescribed deadline.

The High Court bench, in its order, stated, "The records in the case indicate that the College admitted the student beyond the stipulated period but later shifted the blame onto the University. The College failed to upload the related documents online, resulting in the University not approving the admission of these students."

The order further highlighted that the College has previously admitted students after the deadline, claiming vacancies as the reason, but falsely asserting that the admissions were made within the designated time frame. Such actions are considered violations of the rules set forth by the National Medical Commission, and the College has been penalized accordingly.
