Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Sindhu B Rupesh on Tuesday confirmed that the ongoing lockdown in the district will not be extended further. The DC added that the lockdown will be lifted from July 23, 5 am.

A week-long lockdown was imposed in the district starting July 16 till July 22 in the wake of the increasing COVID-19 cases in the district.

Earlier in the day, the Karnataka Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa had clarified that the lockdown will not be extended in Bengaluru or any other part of the state asserting that the government was of the opinion that lockdown was not the solution to the spread of COVID-19 but the self-consciousness of the citizen was.

Sindhu Rupesh however added that the District Administration will initiate the ‘Intensive Vulnerable People Identification Survey’ from July 23 and the officials of the health department and ASHA workers will be visiting the houses to identify vulnerable citizens. She urged people in the district to co-operate with the officials in providing details.

Kalaburagi: A man was found dead, with his body seen hanging, in his own field in Hulasaguda village of Kalagi taluk on Saturday morning. The cause for death is unknown as yet.

The deceased, identified as Revanasiddhappa Shettappa (26), is learned to have been a resident of Hulasaguda village.

Ratkal Police Sub-inspector Sheela Devi reportedly visited the spot where the man’s body was found and inspected it.

Police have registered a case in this regard and are probing the death of the Shettappa.
