Mangaluru: Muslim Educational Institutions Federation (MEIF) on Thursday organized a press conference here in the city stating that it will be organising an educational conference at Town Hall in Mangaluru on Monday 13 February.

The conference will mark the completion of 20 years of service at the MEIF. As a part of the conference several teachers, management members and students will be addressing the session along with a brainstorming session by community leaders towards the end of the conference.

Muslim Educational Institution Federation is a confederation of various schools started as a community initiative by the Coastal Muslim Community. About 150 Schools from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts are members of MEIF.

“MEIF has been at the forefront of safeguarding the legitimate rights of the minority institutions with regard to the medium of instruction and similar other education-related issues.” A press statement from the organization stated.

“The community is to start educational institutes and subsequently to form a federation to collectively protect and further their interest was the brains child of their former Minister for Higher Education Late B.A. Mohideen. MEIF also remembers the yeoman services rendered by Late P.A. Khader Kukkady & Late Mohammed Beary, who were instrumental in taking MEIF to the present level as its erstwhile President.” The press note added.

“At present, MEIF is proud to see these schools catering to the educational needs of not only Muslim children but also the children from other educationally and economically backward communities, helping them to get modern quality English education at an affordable cost. Thousands of children, especially girls who were confined within the four walls are now allowed to step out into the mainstream professional world. The overall results of these schools are near hundred percent with the majority passing with distinction and first-class grades. This has been only possible because of the relentless efforts of the management of these schools which are democratically elected community bodies and overall guided by MEIF.” It further added.

The Rajya Sabha website now shows that the seven MPs are part of the BJP list of members.

The seven MPs had on Friday petitioned the Rajya Sabha Chairman to be treated as BJP MPs after the merger and the same has been accepted, sources said.

The AAP had on Sunday moved a petition before the RS Chairman seeking the termination of the membership of the seven MPs, who had switched sides.

Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said he has submitted a petition to Chairman Radhakrishnan seeking the disqualification of the seven party MPs in the Upper House, who recently quit the AAP and announced their merger with the BJP.

On Friday last, the AAP suffered a jolt when the seven Rajya Sabha MPs quit and announced merger with the BJP, alleging that the Kejriwal-led party had strayed from its principles, values and core morals.
