Mangaluru, May 26: Officials of Mangaluru city corporation (MCC) on Wednesday completed the demolition of the old central market here for the construction of a new building under the Smart City project.

The structure was demolished using excavators with police assistance.

Police have set up barricades in and around the old market for the work.

The MCC council had earlier passed a resolution to clear the old central market building and a proposal under the Smart City project was sent to the state government which was stayed by court, MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar told reporters here.

The MCC received approval from the HC and the demolition began early Wednesday.

The area in the heart of the city will now be handed over to the officials of the Smart City project.

Chennai: Sai Pallavi, set to portray Sita in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana alongside Ranbir Kapoor, has strongly refuted rumours claiming she gave up non-vegetarian food for the role. The actor took to social media to denounce the reports and cautioned against the spread of false information.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sai Pallavi expressed frustration over fabricated stories and warned of legal action. She wrote, "Most of the time, I choose to stay silent when baseless rumours are spread, but it’s high time I react. Especially around the release or announcement of my films, these fabricated lies seem to peak. If any ‘reputed’ media or individual spreads such stories again, you will hear from me legally. Period!"

The rumours reportedly originated from a Tamil daily, which claimed that Sai Pallavi adopted vegetarianism while preparing for her role as Sita. It also suggested that she travels with a team of cooks to ensure vegetarian meals.

However, Sai Pallavi clarified that she has always been a vegetarian. In a past interview, she stated, "I am forever a vegetarian. I can't see a life being taken or think it's okay to hurt another being."

Sai Pallavi was last seen in the Tamil biographical action film Amaran, which depicted a segment based on Major Mukund Varadarajan's life. Starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, the film achieved significant box-office success.

The actor is now gearing up for her Bollywood debut in Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious adaptation of Ramayana. The film features an ensemble cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Ravi Dubey, Sunny Deol, and Kannada superstar Yash. The first part of the two-part epic is slated for release in 2026.
