Mangaluru: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Tuesday demanded strict action against Dr. PS Harsha Mangaluru Police Commissioner, and other officers of the department who are found guilty of letting the situation go out of hands on December 19, leading to violence and clashes between police and protesters in the city.
Syed Ilyas Thumbay, State President of the party while addressing a press conference in Mangaluru demanded that the officers along with Police Commissioner should immediately be suspended and tried under law for murders of protesters.
Two people died, several others sustained injuries when police Lathi Charged on protesters and later resorted to firing.
The police department including PS Harsha has been under-fire ever since the incident and has been criticised for the flaws and loopholes on their version of the story.
Karnataka CM Yediyurappa has ordered CID probe into the matter after claiming his government did not orders of firing or lathi charging the protesters.
Several office bearers and members of Dakshina Kannada SDPI were present during the press conference.

Ahmedabad (PTI): Shubman Gill led from the front with a classy 86 as Gujarat Titans defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in an Indian Premier League match here on Friday.
Earlier, KKR all-rounder Cameron Green produced a fighting 79 off 55 balls to lift his side to 180 all out. In reply, Gill anchored the chase with a composed 86 off 50 deliveries as GT crossed the line in 19.4 overs.
The win marked GT's third successive victory after opening with two losses, while KKR's search for their first win of the season continues.
