Mangaluru: The Mangalore City Police Commissioner, Anupam Agarwal, has assured the public that the police are taking the case of a young woman assaulted at a city hotel very seriously. The incident, which took place on August 25, reportedly stemmed from a dispute over parking and escalated into an assault.

According to reports, the young woman was harassed and physically assaulted by a group of youths near a hotel in the Lalbagh area of Mangaluru. The victim later shared her ordeal on social media, where the video quickly went viral. In her account, she alleged that despite reporting the incident to the Barke police station, no immediate action was taken.

The Commissioner confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident, and the police are actively investigating. "We are reviewing CCTV footage to gather evidence, and those responsible for the assault will be arrested," said Commissioner Agarwal.

In the video, the young woman recounted the events of that night. She stated that she and her family had gone to the hotel around 9:30 pm and left after dinner at 11 pm. When she went to the washroom, she was shocked to find a man inside the women's toilet. Upon exiting, she was confronted by two more men who were rude to her. After reporting the incident to the cash counter, the issue appeared to be resolved with an apology.

However, the situation escalated when she reached the parking lot, where she found a bike blocking her car. As she attempted to reverse her car, the biker (same men from the washroom,) reportedly began verbally abusing her. When her family intervened, the altercation intensified, and one of the men allegedly struck her. As she tried to defend herself, another individual joined in and threatened her life.

The young woman also alleged that when she initially went to the Pandeshwar women's police station to report the incident, she was directed to the Barke police station. She eventually filed a complaint at Barke, and an FIR was registered.

Jaipur, May 15 (PTI): A BJP legislator was seen wiping his face with the national flag during a Tiranga Yatra held in Jaipur on Thursday, drawing sharp criticism from the opposition Congress, which termed the act "disrespectful".

The incident took place during the march taken out in honour of the Indian armed forces following the success of Operation Sindoor.

Balmukund Acharya, the MLA from Hawa Mahal assembly constituency, was seen using the tricolour to wipe his face as the rally passed through crowded markets and historic locations in the city.

A video of the act surfaced on social media, prompting criticism from Congress leaders, who accused the BJP of politicising patriotism while showing "utter disregard" for national symbols.

However, after realising his mistake, the MLA almost immediately switched to a regular piece of cloth to clean his face. Nevertheless, the moment has already drawn attention.

Reacting to the video, Congress leaders said on X, "Such behaviour during a rally meant to honour the Army and the national flag was 'insensitive' and 'disrespectful'."

There was no immediate comment from the BJP on the matter.

The Tiranga Yatra, which began from Albert Hall and concluded at Badi Chaupad, witnessed participation from Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy CM Diya Kumari, BJP state president Madan Rathore and several senior party leaders.
