Mangaluru: Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Sandeep Patil on Tuesday morning confirmed that Siddhart, the founder owner of Café Coffee Day group and son-in-law of former CM SM Krishna, VG Siddhartha had jumped off Nethravathi brigde on late Monday night and was since missing.

According to Patil, Siddhartha was on his way to Sakleshpur from Bengaluru on Monday morning when he asked the driver to turn the car towards Mangaluru. Later at night Siddhartha asked the driver to park the car near Nethravathi Bridge adding that he wants to take a walk, he then jumped off the bridge.

The police has launched search operation in the river for Siddhartha since late night on Monday. A dog squad, boat services and assistance from local fishermen were also part of the search operation. Patil added that the police was also trying to verify who he was with and who he was in contact with before the incident.

Patil also added that he was currently in Bengaluru and visited the house of former CM SM Krishna as soon as he received the information about the incident and spoke to Siddhartha’s wife. He also added that he had gathered some information regarding the case.

DCP Hanumantharaya while speaking about the case added that while Siddhartha was on his way from Bengaluru towards Mangaluru had called several people including his company’s CEO whom he called at about 6.pm in the evening.

Mangaluru: RSS leader Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat has been granted bail by the Puttur Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in a case related to alleged communal hate speech.

The case pertains to a complaint filed against Bhat for delivering a speech during a Deepotsava event that was allegedly communal, derogatory towards women, and capable of disturbing public order. The incident took place on October 22 at Uppalige in Puttur taluk during the Deepotsava and Gopuja programme, where Bhat was present.

Following the complaint filed by Eshwari Padmunja at the Puttur Rural Police Station, the police had issued a notice directing Bhat to appear for inquiry. Subsequently, Bhat filed an anticipatory bail petition before the court.

During the hearing on October 27, the court issued an interim order restraining coercive action and adjourned the matter to October 29 for complete hearing. On October 29, the counsel representing complainant Eshwari Padmunja sought permission to argue under Sections 338 and 339 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The court adjourned the matter several times post that.

On Wednesday, the court granted bail to Prabhakar Bhat.
