Mangaluru, Oct 2: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Mangaluru have arrested five individuals allegedly involved in the sale and transport of the banned substance MDMA. The operation, which took place in the Konaje police jurisdiction, resulted in the seizure of 70 grams of MDMA. Along with the drugs, the police confiscated five mobile phones, Rs 1,460 in cash, and a digital weighing scale. The total value of the seized items, including the MDMA worth Rs 3, 50,000, is estimated at Rs 4, 25,500.

The suspects, identified as Abdul Shakir (24) from Shivamogga, Hassan Ashir (34) from Manjeshwar, Riyaz AK (31) from Kannur, Mohammed Naushad (22) from Kasargod, and Yasin Imraj (35) from Manjeshwar, were taken into custody during the raid near Nettillapadavu. Acting on a tip-off, the police discovered that the group had been selling MDMA to both students and the public within Mangaluru city limits.

The operation was led by CCB Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manoj Kumar Naik, along with Inspector Shyam Sundar HM, PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, and other members of the CCB team.

The accused have been charged at the Konaje police station. Notably, two of the arrested individuals have prior criminal records. Hassan Ashir has been involved in assault and previous drug-related crimes in Manjeshwar, while Yasin Imraj has been linked to drug trafficking cases in both Manjeshwar and Bengaluru.

Dubai, Oct 2: The ICC has banned Sri Lanka player Praveen Jayawickrama from all cricket for one year, of which six months are suspended, after he admitted breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, parent body said in a press release on Wednesday. The charges relate to international cricket and the Lanka Premier League.

Jayawickrama admitted to being in breach of the following provision under the Code:

Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code.

As a result of the admission, Jayawickrama has accepted a sanction of a one-year period of ineligibility, of which the last six months are suspended.
