Mangaluru: In an accident that occurred on Saturday morning, a speeding car rear-ended an Auto-rickshaw resulting in the death of the rickshaw driver on the Netravathi Bridge in the outskirts of the National Highway 66 near Thokkottu.

The deceased rickshaw driver has been identified as Sanjeev Poojary (45), a resident of Pajeer.

The Auto which was going to Thokottu from Mangaluru hit from behind by a speeding car, it is learned. The car driver’s irresponsible driving has been blamed for this unfortunate accident.

The Rickshaw driver, who got thrown out of his vehicle upon impact is said to have been run over by the car, causing his instant death. The people who witnessed the accident gathered at the site and expressed their anger by attacking the car driver, it is learned.

The Mangaluru South Traffic police arrived at the scene and dispersed the angry crowd, and took the car driver into custody. The body of the rickshaw driver was reportedly transported to the city’s Wenlock hospital.

The car possessing Kerala’s pass was reportedly on the way to Kasaragod via the Talapady route. It is learned that both the vehicles were damaged in the accident.

Bengaluru: Saalumarada Thimmakka, the renowned environmentalist known as the "Mother of Trees," has been admitted to Jayanagar Apollo Hospital due to health complications. The 113-year-old activist, celebrated for planting and nurturing thousands of trees across Karnataka, is currently receiving treatment in the hospital's intensive care unit.

According to sources, Thimmakka has been battling respiratory issues for the past 17 days. Given her advanced age, she is also experiencing other age-related ailments. Doctors are closely monitoring her condition and continuing treatment.

Thimmakka, a Padma Shri awardee, has been an inspiration for generations due to her tireless work in environmental conservation.
