Mangaluru: Private Doctors have called for a nationwide strike to protest against the Central Government’s National Medical Commission Bill. Even though, the prominent hospitals in Mangaluru, including Father Muller, AJ, KMC, have thrown open their OPDs and doctors are treating patients.

Though the Indian Medical Association has called for an OPD bandh, on-duty Doctors are attending patients at OPDs here. “We are not sending patients back,” authorities of Father Muller and AJ Hospitals said.

The Central Government intends to pass the bill on the recommendation of the National Medical Commission. We have called for a one-day symbolic strike. Except for emergency services, no OPDs will be opened,” the president of the private doctors association said at a press conference in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru: Customs officials have seized 5.70 kg of worth Rs 1.99 crore from a passenger at Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli.

The seizure was made on April 18 during a check at Terminal-2 after the passenger arrived from Bangkok. Officials found the contraband concealed inside the luggage during inspection.

The passenger has been arrested and the drugs have been taken into custody. A case has been registered at the Kempegowda International Airport Police Station, customs officials said.
