Mangaluru: Horrific road accident on Thursday evening killed a final year degree student on the spot near Nanthoor here in the city. A bullet tanker reportedly hit two-wheeler from behind and ran over the rider, killing him on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Karthik, a resident of Mannegudda. Karthik was reportedly as final year degree student at Besant Sandhya College in the city.

The incident took place when Karthik was heading towards Nanthoor Circle from Suratkal. A bullet tanker hit Karthik’s two-wheeler from behind and ran over him, killing Karthik on the spot.

A case in this regard has been registered at Kadri Police Station.

Manipal: The Manipal police arrested two accused within 11 hours of registering a bike theft case following a swift investigation.

The accused have been identified as Sharath (26) and Ganesh (31), residents of Netaji Nagar in 80 Badagabettu village.

According to police, a complaint was filed after a motorcycle belonging to Sudarshan was stolen on February 21. The bike had been parked near Veera Maruti Bhajana Mandir in Rahul Nagar, Badagabettu village.

According to the complaint, police traced and arrested the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession. The duo was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police said over 11 theft cases have been registered against the accused at various police stations, including Manipal, Udupi City, Bhadravati, Koppa, Thirthahalli, Madikeri and Tumakuru.

Further investigation is under way.
