Mangaluru: Mangaluru city police, in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has undertaken initiative to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce accidents at Nanthoor junction, one of the city's busiest and troublesome intersections. The police commissioner, Kuldeep Jain, announced on Wednesday that the circle's size has been reduced, aiming to enhance accessibility and ensure smoother traffic flow.

Commissioner Jain revealed that the police department had been planning the circle's size reduction for a month. Additionally, the department intends to relocate the high mast light positioned in the center of the circle and make the road more level, thereby facilitating easier commute for motorists.

Regarding the proposal for constructing a flyover at the intersection, Jain acknowledged that it would be a long-term endeavor, requiring an estimated 5-6 years for completion. In the meantime, the police department will focus on implementing measures to enhance daily commuting experience based on the NHAI's recommendations, including appropriate diversions at the circle.

While there are currently no plans to implement similar changes at KPT Junction, Jain mentioned a minor issue concerning the free left turn for vehicles traveling from the Circuit House towards Udupi. This matter is related to the ongoing drainage works conducted by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). Once the drainage works are completed, vehicles heading to Udupi will be allowed to make a free left turn. Jain assured that discussions with the MCC are underway to expedite the work process. He also informed that widening the mouth of the road at KPT Junction has been proposed to enhance convenience and that the NHAI has been informed about this. Jain further reassured the public that the traffic signals at KPT Junction are functioning properly.

Moreover, Commissioner Jain emphasized that the police department is fully prepared to manage traffic and address any related issues during the upcoming monsoon season.

The Nanthoor junction has been notorious for several accidents that have claimed innocent lives. The recent action taken by the police department is seen as a significant relief, bringing hope for smoother and safer commuting experiences in the area.

New Delhi(PTI): Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Wednesday as opposition members insisted on a discussion on various issues, including bribery charges related to the Adani Group.

The proceedings were briefly adjourned in the morning session due to opposition protest, and when the House re-assembled at 11.30 AM, there were identical scenes.

This prompted Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to adjourn the proceedings for the day, saying the "House is not in order".

The trobule started after Dhankhar rejected 18 notices under a rule of the House to suspend scheduled business and take up issues mentioned in the notices.

The notices related to demand for 'constitution of a JPC to investigate the alleged misconduct, including corruption, bribery, financial irregularities of the Adani Group in connivance with other authorities', violence in Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh and rising incidents of crime in the national capital.

"Upper House needs to reflect and follow well-established traditions that ruling of the Chair requires reference and not cause differences. I have, in detail, given reasons why, in these situations, notices are not being accepted," Dhankhar said while rejecting the notices under Rule 267 of the House.

On Monday also, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day during the morning session itself as opposition insisted on raising the issues related to Adani Group.

There was no sitting of the House on Tuesday.

The Adani Group said on Wednesday that Gautam Adani, and his nephew Sagar have not been charged with any violation of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) in the indictment that authorities filed in the New York court in an alleged bribery case.
