Mangaluru: The Principal District and Sessions Court on Wednesday convicted two persons for five years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on charges of smuggling ganja.
The convicted have been identified as Mohammed Touseef (22) of Kajoor and Abdul Sinan (24) of Malavanthige in Belthangady taluk. If the convicted failed to pay the penalty, they have to undergo six months additional imprisonment, the court said.

When Belthangady PSI Girish and his team were checking the vehicles near Anugraha PU college at Ujire on March 13, 2018, the convicted tried to escape from them. But the police caught them after finding ganja in their car. Later, the police confiscated the ganja, car, mobile phones and cash from them and arrested. Later, they were produced before the court.
Hearing the case, judge Kadlur Satyanarayan Acharya announced the verdict. Public prosecutors Pushparaj K and Raju Poojary argued against the convicted.

Cuttack (PTI): Hardik Pandya smashed a sparkling unbeaten 28-ball 59 to lift India to 175 for six against South Africa in the first T20I here on Tuesday.
Returning to international cricket after recovering from quadricep injury, Pandya smashed six fours and four maximums to provide the much-needed impetus in the fag end of the innings after India were 78 for 4 in 12th over.
Tilak Varma (26) and Axar Patel (23) also chipped in with useful contributions after SA asked India to take first strike.
SA managed to take wickets early on with Lungi Ngidi (3/31) and Lutho Sipamla (2/38) sharing five wickets before Pandya produced a superb innings.
