Mangaluru: Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), Bearys Enviro-Architecture Design School (BEADS), and Bearys Institute of Emerging Sciences (BIES), Mangaluru will mark the World Green Building week and will take its green initiative to the next level, by organizing “Green Walkathon” on Sunday, September 11.
The walkathon will be held from Nehru Maidan to Mangala stadium ground here in the city.
The walkathon will be flagged off by Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru City South, and N. Shashi Kumar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru city at 7:30 am at Nehru Maidan, and the Valedictory function will be at Mangala Stadium.
Abubaker Siddique Beary, Deputy MD, Bearys Group will also deliver a special address during the ceremony.
The objective of the event is to bring awareness to sustainable development, energy saving, reuse, recycle, and by promoting for clean and green city, a press statement from the organization added.
“The world is under constant threat of climate change, more frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and warming oceans can directly harm animals, destroy the places they live, and wreak havoc on people's livelihoods and communities. As climate change worsens, dangerous weather events are becoming more frequent or severe.
“And due to this the responsibilities of humans to save earth have increased several folds. The utilization of technologies and infrastructure that save energy, energy conservation; the efforts to find renewable energy sources, the accessible green buildings to the sun and the many plants/trees inherent in buildings, the adaptation to the global warming reduction or the policy to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, and so forth; should be a good concern and sustainable in the future.” The press statement added.

New Delhi (PTI): A court can reject anticipatory bail of an accused but it has no jurisdiction to direct him to surrender before the trial court, the Supreme Court has said.
A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuyan made the observation while hearing a plea filed by a man accused of cheating and forgery.
"If the court wants to reject the anticipatory bail, it may do so, but the court has no jurisdiction to say that the petitioner should now surrender," the bench said.
The Jharkhand High Court had rejected anticipatory bail plea of the accused and asked him to surrender and seek regular bail.
In this case, a complaint had been filed before a magistrate alleging offences under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document) and 120B read with 34 of the IPC, in connection with a land dispute.
The high court had dismissed the second anticipatory bail application of the accused on the ground that no new circumstances were shown.
It had relied on its earlier order rejecting his first anticipatory bail plea, in which the court directed the petitioner to surrender before the trial court and seek regular bail in terms of the decision in Satender Kumar Antil v. CBI.
The top court said such a direction was wholly without jurisdiction and said that if a court chooses to reject anticipatory bail, it may do so, but it cannot compel the accused to surrender.
