Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K has warned that stringent action will be taken against individuals obstructing the Police Department's efforts to maintain law and order in the district, including the Mangaluru City police limits.
The senior officer stated that law and order in both Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru City police limits had been severely affected in recent months. A review of murder cases in the region over the past ten years revealed that the accused were often linked to religious organisations. The police will now closely monitor the activities of such organisations and the places frequently visited by their leaders. A list of such leaders has been prepared, and police officers have been directed to keep an eye on the activities of all associated members, he added.
Dr Arun said that preventive measures are being taken regularly against activities that disrupt law and order in the district. However, on Sunday, individuals within the limits of Kadaba Police Station staged a protest without permission outside the police station, objecting to the police action. A case has been filed against the protesters under BNS Section 39/2025, Clauses 189(2) and 180, he said.
Issuing a stern warning, the SP said that strict legal action will be taken against any such disruptions in the future, adding that the police operation will continue until law and order is fully restored in Dakshina Kannada.

Srinagar (PTI): A fire broke out in a five-storey commercial building near the Lal Chowk city centre here on Saturday, but was doused before it could spread in the congested business hub, officials said.
They said firefighters recovered 19 gas cylinders during the operation and there were no casualties in the incident.
Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Aqib Mir, said, "The fire originated from the attic portion of the building, which houses the kitchen of a restaurant. The cause of the fire is being ascertained."
"The attic was severely damaged. There were no casualties," he said.
The firefighters managed to contain the damage by swiftly dousing the blaze using a hydraulic platform, Mir said.
During the firefighting operation, 19 gas cylinders were recovered from the spot, he said.
"We have informed the concerned police station," he added.
Mir appealed to people not to store combustible substances at home or commercial places.
