Konaje: The death toll in the tragic landslide at Hitthilukodi in Montepadavu, Manjanady village, has risen to three after another child was found dead under the debris.

Ashwini, who was trapped beneath the rubble along with her children, has been rescued. However, her one-and-a-half-year-old child, Ayush, was declared dead. Earlier, her three-year-old son Aryan had also succumbed to injuries after being pulled out by rescue teams.

The landslide occurred around 4 AM on Friday when a hill collapsed onto a house, killing 58-year-old Prema, wife of house owner Kanthappa Poojary, on the spot. Ashwini, the wife of Kanthappa’s son Seetharam, and her two young children were trapped under the debris.

Aryan was rescued around noon but died soon after. Later, Ashwini and her younger child Ayush were also pulled out, but Ayush could not be saved. Ashwini has been admitted to the hospital.

Kanthappa Poojary and his son Seetharam, who were also trapped inside the collapsed house, were rescued earlier in the morning. Kanthappa sustained serious leg injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.

Srinagar (PTI): A fire broke out in a five-storey commercial building near the Lal Chowk city centre here on Saturday, but was doused before it could spread in the congested business hub, officials said.

They said firefighters recovered 19 gas cylinders during the operation and there were no casualties in the incident.

Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Aqib Mir, said, "The fire originated from the attic portion of the building, which houses the kitchen of a restaurant. The cause of the fire is being ascertained."

"The attic was severely damaged. There were no casualties," he said.

The firefighters managed to contain the damage by swiftly dousing the blaze using a hydraulic platform, Mir said.

During the firefighting operation, 19 gas cylinders were recovered from the spot, he said.

"We have informed the concerned police station," he added.

Mir appealed to people not to store combustible substances at home or commercial places.
