Mangaluru, November 21: The MRPL which has faced public resentment against flying ash for the last five-six years, has again releasing the flying ash for the last two-three days causing anger among nearby residents. As a result, it has caused air pollution in Jokatte and Kana near Surathkal.
Flying ash is being emitted from the sulphur and coke units due to which the nearby environment has turned into black colour. Black coloured ash collected on houses, shops and business establishments, schools and prayer halls and it is said that it would have negative impact on the health of the people. The flying ash found in the wells and ponds in the region and it has created panic among people.
Officials visit
As the Jokatte and Kana areas have been suffering from flying ash for the last two days, the MRPL officials on Wednesday visited the places and inspected it.
Public anger
This problem is not new. People of this region have been facing the same problem for the last many years. When the incident happened, officials who visit the places, would promise of taking steps to solve the problem. But they would not solve any problem. So, the district administration should consider it seriously and take action against the MRPL, people demanded.
