Mangaluru, September 30: Urban Development and Housing Minister UT Khader said that "the government would enforce the New Building Act shortly to emphasise on construction of green and smart houses as green houses and clean environment is the need of the hour in the society".
Felicitating those who contributed for the environmental conservation, at the Green Walkathon 2018, organised by the Beary's Institute of Technology ( BIT) and BEADS at the Town Hall here on Sunday, the Minister said that priority would be given for reuse of water and solid waste management. It was planning to make it mandatory to plant minimum four saplings and manage them and ground water recharging pits, he said.
Hailing the role of engineers in the building construction, the Minister said that the engineers could bring in revolutionary changes in the society by creating awareness among people on giving priority to environment while constructing houses.
Inaugurating the programme, Beary's Academy of Learning chairman and Beary's Group CMD Syed Mohammed Beary said that just speeches on global warming. Everybody should understand their responsibility and give importance to sustainable development to protect environmental balance. His company has been giving importance to environment friendly buildings, he said.
"Kerala and Kodagu natural disasters were the clear evidence on ill-treatment and exploitation of the environment. We don't have any objections about development. But we shouldn't develop anything by erasing the natural greenery", he said.
Ramakrishna Mission, Abdul Rahman of Anti-pollution Drive, snake conservator Suraj Maskeranus, soilless green plantation builder Suraj Ajila, environmental activist Shashidhar Shetty, animal conservator Thouseef Ahmed, forest developer Abdul Kareem, environmental activist Madhava Ullal and Clean beach activist Yathiraj Baikampady were felicitated on the occasion.

Proposal to use solar energy in Vidhana Soudha and Vikas Soudha
"A proposal to install solar panels on Vidhana Soudha and Vikas Soudha and use the solar energy was submitted to the state government and it would be first of its kind in the country. The company has submitted a proposal to the principal secretary of the state government on giving FAR concession from the tax being collected for green buildings, said Beary's Academy of Learning chairman and Beary's Group CMD Syed Mohammed Beary.

Puttur (Karnataka), Nov 26: Four people have been arrested for allegedly disposing of a Dalit labourer’s body negligently in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased, Shivappa (70), a resident of Keremoole near Sullia, worked as an assistant mason at Tauro Cement Fabrication Unit in Salmara village. He reportedly collapsed and died during work hours on November 16.
Instead of providing medical assistance or notifying his family, the factory owner, Henry Tauro, allegedly loaded Shivappa’s body onto a pickup truck and dumped it near his home, placing it on wooden logs by the roadside, according to police.

The incident sparked outrage among Dalit organisations in Puttur, including the Adi Dravida Samaja Seva Sangha, who demanded a thorough investigation.
Protests over delays in apprehending the accused intensified public pressure, leading to the arrests of Tauro, his son Kiran, their assistant Prakash, and a mason named Stany.
According to a complaint lodged by Shivappa's son-in-law, the accused brought Shivappa home unresponsive on the evening of November 16. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Atrocities Against Dalits Act, and investigations are underway to establish the cause of death and examine allegations of mishandling the victim’s body, police added.
