Mangaluru: A host of local organisations and Muslim leaders on Tuesday organised a felicitation event for Dakshina Kannada MP and recently appointed State President of BJP, Nalin Kumar Kateel at Hotel Ocean Pearl in Mangaluru.
Speaking at the event, Nalin Kumar Kateel added that he will ensure that he will work for the cause of people and fulfill their demands. He also added that the development of Dakshina Kannada District is on top of his agenda and that he will take everyone in confidence for the betterment of the District.
“I come from RSS background. There I have been taught patriotism and to see god in humans. There is no doubt about it. The place where I was born and brought up had more than 80% of Muslim population. I then joined BJP and then the atmosphere changed for me. But the way I am being honored and felicitated by Muslim leaders today, this will go a long way and will stay as a pleasant memory for me” Nalin Kumar said during his address.
Y Abdullah Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya Group of Institutions in his address lauded Nalin Kumar and added that the abilities of Nalin Kumar has prompted the party high command to appoint him as the state chief.
Talent Research Foundation founder and Managing Director of Vishwas Bawa Builders, Abdul Rauf Puthige, former MLA Rukmaya Poojary, Beary’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry president S M Rasheed, President of Ullal darga Abdul Rasheed and others were present during the event.

Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka has accused the Congress government of using the hijab issue to placate what he described as discontent among minority voters after the Davanagere by-election.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Ashoka alleged that the state government, instead of addressing issues such as price rise, corruption, farmers’ distress and law and order, was attempting to retain its minority vote base by reviving the hijab issue.
Referring to the 2022 dress code introduced by the BJP government, which prohibited hijab in schools and colleges, Ashoka said the Karnataka High Court had upheld the policy and emphasised the importance of discipline in educational institutions.
He questioned the Congress government’s move to revisit the issue and asked whether setting aside the court-backed policy to benefit one community could be described as secularism.
Ashoka further alleged that while the government was willing to permit hijab, it continued to prohibit saffron shawls.
He accused the government of dividing students on religious lines rather than treating schools and colleges as spaces of equality.
Drawing a comparison with Mamata Banerjee’s government in West Bengal, Ashoka claimed that excessive appeasement politics had harmed the state and warned that the Congress in Karnataka could face a similar political response.
He said voters in Karnataka would teach the Congress a lesson for what he termed “vote-bank politics” and for compromising constitutional and judicial principles.
