Padubidri, Feb 7: The agitation of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, against Hejamadi toll plaza entered 32nd day on Thursday. The agitators on Thursday, sat into the puddles of mud to express their dissent against the toll plaza and the company managing the toll ‘Navayug’.
“Though the representatives of central and state governments and elected representatives and officials of the company have visited the place where the agitators have staged dharna, they have not committed anything to resolve the issue. But the Lok Sabha MP has no time to meet the agitators”, Vedike Vice President Asif told reporters.
Vedike’s District President Ansar Ahmed said that the Toll Company should give relaxation to Padubidri residents and Lok Sabha Member Shobha Karandlaje should make sure that this is implemented to help the residents.
Vedike Taluka President Syed Nizamuddin, Budan Saheb, Naveen N Shetty, Hassan Bava and others were present.
About the issue:
Residents have been protesting against the toll and its managing company for not excepting the residents of nearby localities from paying tolls. The protesters claim that it has burdened people who frequently travel to adjoining cities like Mangaluru, while some travel on daily basis, causing severe financial inconvenience. However for more than one year now, the protesters’ demands of excepting the local residents from toll have gone unheard.
