Puttur: One of the five accused in the Puttur gang rape case of a college student was on Thursday granted bail by Karnataka High Court in the case, while the bail application of the other four accused will be heard next week in the High Court.
Court of Thursday granted bail to Prajwal (19), a resident of Bantwal Taluk.
The case dates back to March this year when the five accused had offered lift to a girl of their college to drop her to home and had raped her in an isolated place on car. The video of the incident was also recorded by the accused.
The video went viral on social media platforms in July this year after which the Puttur Women Police filed suo-motto case and had traced and arrested the accused. The arrested accuse were identified as Gurunandan (19), Sunil (19), Prajwal (19), Kishan (19) and Prakyath (19) all students of same college that of the victim.
All the five accused were sent to judicial custody of which Prajwal was granted bail on Thursday. Bail applications of other accused will be heard next week in High Court.

Bengaluru: A special court for people’s representatives has sentenced Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of BJP leader Yogish Goudar.
The verdict was delivered by judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat. The court had earlier, on Wednesday, held all 17 accused guilty of murdering Goudar, while reserving the quantum of punishment.
On Friday, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to all the convicted persons in the case.
Yogish Goudar, a BJP member from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency in Dharwad district, was murdered in 2016.
