Puttur: Sinchana Lakshmi, a second-year student at Vivekananda PU College in Puttur, has secured All India Rank 2 at the national level in NEET 2021 in the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) category, results of which were announced on Monday.
Lakshmi scored 658 out of 720 marks in the qualifying examination. In the general category, she secured the 2,865th position among all the 16 lakh-odd medical seat aspirants who appeared for the exam.
Earlier during her SSLC examination, Lakshmi had secured the second rank in the state by scoring 624 marks out of 625.
Her performance in JEE and KCET was also remarkable: 96.16 percentile in JEE; 530th rank in B.Sc. Agriculture, 974th rank in BNYS, 974th rank in veterinary and 1,582nd Rank in KCET engineering.
Her ambition is to become a doctor and serve the needy. She hopes for a seat in the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
Lakshmi has a birth defect in the spine and has undergone several surgeries during her schooling days.

Thane (PTI): A 45-year-old man was killed, and his wife and son were injured when a portion of plaster from the ceiling collapsed in their flat in a seven-storey building in Thane on Saturday, officials said.
Chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell, Yasin Tadvi, said the 16-year-old building is not listed in the "dangerous" category.
"The incident occurred in Karumdev Society at about 3 am. The plaster of the hall in a flat on the terrace floor suddenly fell while the occupants were asleep", he said.
Of the four people who were inside the room, two suffered minor injuries and were discharged after primary treatment, Tadvi stated.
The injured persons were identified as Arpita More (42), who suffered minor head injuries, and her son Arush More (16), who sustained injuries to both legs.
Manoj More (45), who sustained chest injuries, died during treatment at a private hospital.
