Mangaluru: A Dalit student's rape case at a college in Puttur is a matter of great concern. The incident is a stigma on Dakshina Kannada district, said UT Khadar, Minister for Urban Development and District in-charge.

Expressing his concern to Varthabharati on Thursday, the minister said that he had spoken to state women's commission chairperson Nagalakshmi about the case. I also met Amarnath, Chairman of the SC-ST Committee and the district police superintendent regarding the case and directed them after conducting a discussion.  

Lawyers should argue to make sure that the accused to get stringent punishment and get justice for the Dalit student, the minister urged.

Tiruchirappalli (PTI): A Bengaluru bound Air India Express flight with about 137 passengers made an "emergency landing," here following a technical glitch, sources at the airport said.

The Thiruvananthapuram-Bengaluru service suffered the glitch mid-air, following which it made the safe landing here, the sources added.

All the passengers disembarked the flight and the technical crew was attending to the fault.

An Air India Express spokesperson said the flight "was diverted to Tiruchirappalli due to a technical issue."

"A replacement aircraft is being organised to operate the flight to Bengaluru. We are providing all administrative arrangements and regret the inconvenience caused to the travel schedule (of passengers)," the spokesperson added.
