Vitla: Jewelry worth lakhs of rupees along with cash were stolen from a house here, with the robbers breaking in when the members of the household were away.

The incident was reported at the residence of Rahim Shaan near the school in Kanathadka here Sunday night.

Vitla Police filed a case following a complaint by the family members, who suspected the robbers to have broken in between 8 pm and 11 pm on Sunday, when they were out to attend a wedding. The robbers gained entry into the house from the back door.

The family discovered the robbery on returning home at around midnight.

Up to 15 pawns of gold and Rs 1 lakh in cash are learned to have been stolen from the house.

Belthangady: K. Vasanta Bangera, a prominent political figure and five-time MLA from Belthangady, passed away at the age of 79 in a private hospital in Bangaluru on May 8, around 4 pm.

Born on January 15, 1946, Bangera was the first son of Kede Subba Pujari and Devaki. His health had recently deteriorated significantly, leading to his admission to a hospital in Bangaluru for treatment.

Following his demise, arrangements are being made to transport his body to Belthangady, where he is expected to arrive early on May 9. Family sources have indicated that arrangements will be made for the public to pay their final respects to Bangera.
