Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police department has advised the Mangalore Municipal Corporation (MCC) to revoke the licenses of vendors operating under the names Amantrana, Unique World, and Fantastic World on the ground floor of Saibeen Complex in Lalbagh.

The move comes in response to a recent raid conducted by Barke police following complaints that these vendors were selling e-cigarettes, which are prohibited by the central government.

On August 21, Barke police executed a raid on the premises based on allegations of selling e-cigarettes and foreign cigarettes lacking government-mandated warning labels on their packaging. During the operation, a sum of Rs. 2,70,000 was confiscated. Additionally, a substantial quantity of e-cigarettes and foreign cigarettes was seized, and legal actions were initiated against the vendors.

Prior to this incident, cases had already been filed against these accused vendors at Barke police station for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of e-cigarettes. Despite these cases, the accused reportedly continued their prohibited trade activities. In light of this ongoing situation, Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain has written to the Mangalore Municipal Corporation. In his letter, he requested that the trade licenses of the three shops involved be canceled, and suitable actions be taken to address the issue.

Belagavi: Speaker U.T. Khader on Friday warned that members who disrupt Assembly proceedings by talking in their seats during debates will be made to sit in the House for an entire day as a disciplinary measure.

The warning came after the Question Hour, when Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad was permitted to initiate a discussion on the development of North Karnataka.

At this point, expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal objected, stating that he had been seeking a debate for the past three days but had not been given an opportunity.

Responding to the objection, Speaker Khader said Bellad had already been granted permission and assured Yatnal that he would be allowed to speak at the next opportunity. He noted that even as a serious discussion was underway, several MLAs were speaking among themselves with their microphones on, disrupting the proceedings.

Expressing displeasure over the conduct of members, Khader likened the situation to football, where players receive red, yellow, or white cards for violations. Similarly, he said, the Assembly issues warning cards to members who disturb the House. If they fail to correct themselves despite repeated warnings, they would be required to remain seated in the Assembly hall for a full day as punishment, he stated.
