Udupi: KMC Hospital in Manipal of Udupi District has recorded seven cases of ‘black fungus’ also known as mucormycosis. District Health Officer Dr. Sudheer Chandra informed about the cases of ‘black fungus’ cases in the district.

Sudheer Chandra while speaking to Vartha Bharati, said the patients have been admitted to the hospital for treatment of the ‘black fungus’ and belong to other districts. He added the patients are from Davangere, Chitradurga, Koppal, Ranibennur, Hubballi, and Dharwad districts.

He further added there are five women and two male patients undergoing treatment for mucormycosis. All the patients had reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

“Of the seven patients being treated at KMC, six of them except the patient from Davangere, underwent surgery and are recovering. There are no patients of ‘black fungus’ belonging from Udupi District” he added.
