Udupi: The soil from a pit dug for the work on the underpass of the National Highway 66 has collapsed by the service road at Santhekatte in town on Monday morning, due to the incessant rain.

The underpass work, which was started on January 16, had been continuing at a slow pace. The collapse of the soil on the barricade set up for the underpass has now brought the work to a halt.

The service road of the NH 66 has also been damaged due to the collapse of the soil.

The locals, including the residents of Santhekatte and Nayampalli, have expressed anger and worry regarding the outcome of the mishap. More than 300 families in the areas are in danger of being deprived of road connectivity due to the collapse of the soil.
