Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, a boy was killed when a two-wheeler he was traveling in met with an accident at Kote in Soorinje on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammed Saif (13), son of Muhammed Musliyar, a resident of Soorinje Fort.
The six friends were on their way to Surathkal from Soorinje on three two-wheelers to eat ice cream on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Saif was riding pillion on Mansoor's two-wheeler at the time. When the scooter reached Fort in Soorinje, the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned on the road.
According to reports, Saif's head hit the asphalt road hard and he succumbed to injuries on the spot. It is learnt that he had passed class 7 at Hidayat English Medium School in Soorinje and was promoted to Class 8.
A case has been registered at Mangaluru North Traffic Police Station in connection with the incident.

New Delhi (PTI): The Delhi Police has arrested five of a family for allegedly assaulting a police officer and snatching his service pistol during a raid in the Sultanpuri area, an official said on Wednesday.
The accused are Rajender (50), his sons Ritik (24), Sachin (29), Abhishek (26), and his daughter Komal (22).
The incident occurred on September 2, when a team from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force arrested Alka, wife of Rajender, for possession of heroin, police said.
During the raid, Alka's family members attacked a police officer with sticks and bricks and snatched his service pistol, mobile phone, and wallet. However, the officer managed to recover his service pistol, they said.
Police said that an FIR was registered and an investigation was launched.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the accused, absconding since the incident, from a flat in Raghubir Nagar in Delhi.
