Mangaluru, May 15: Raising doubts over the reliability of EVMs, five Congress candidates led by Ramanatha Rai visited returning officer and filed an objection against the voting machines. Only one candidate out of eight candidates from the party emerged victorious in Dakshina Kannada in the state assembly elections.

Congress candidates Ramanatha Rai ( Bantwal), J R Lobo ( Mangaluru South), Mohiuddin Bava ( Mangaluru North), Shakunthala Shetty ( Puttur) and Vasanth Bangera ( Belthangady) who came to the counting center in Bondel on Tuesday afternoon filed an objection saying that " they have doubts that EVMs are misused and the results should be withheld".

Ramanatha Rai, Congress candidate from Bantwal constituency has stated in his complaint that  " in many booths where he was supposed to get majority of votes, his opponent has got more votes. He has doubts that the voting machines ( EVM) are misused." Hence, he has requested that the results of his constituency should be withheld. He has also informed that he will file a detailed objection shortly.

The Congressmen were confident of winning 8 out of 8 seats. But, the results have overturned all calculations. Therefore, the Congress candidates, who are skeptical about EVMs have filed an objection. After the decision of the Election Commissioner, they will be deciding on their next move.
