Tannirbhavi: Ijaz feted for rescuing students from drowning
Mangaluru, June 22: Ijaz, a resident of Bengre in the city, who rescued students from drowning when their car plunged into the river, was felicitated here on Friday.
The students came to Tannirbhavi in the car. But the driver lost the control of the car and plunged into the river. The students were about to drown in the water. At that moment, Ijaz jumped into the river and rescued students. Considering his courage, SIO organization felicitated Ijaz.
Speaking after being felicitated, Ijaz said that “I could not swim. Even then, I tried to rescue the students who were about to drown. We save people irrespective of their religions or castes when they are in danger. There are many people in Bengre and Kasaba doing this service. Unfortunately, they are not getting encouragement”, he said.
SIO secretary Imam Bengre, Abdul Rehman Monaka, Hameed of Seva Dal, JDS leader Abdul Lathief, Bashir Bengre and others were present.

US Consulate in Dubai reportedly attacked
Dubai: Smoke was seen rising from an area near the United States Consulate in Dubai, according to witness accounts cited by Reuters.
There was no immediate official confirmation on the extent of damage or whether there were any casualties in the incident.
Earlier, the US embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, was also attacked. Authorities reported damage to the premises, but no casualties were recorded.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iran continuing to target US interests in the Middle East following deadly attacks launched on Saturday by Israel and the United States.
