Udupi, May 14: Additional JMFC Court has convicted three persons and slapped a fine on charges of obstructing police from discharging their duty, here on May 1.

The convicted are identified as Boja Kanchan, Ravi Kundar and Nagesh Kundar of Kalmadi of Kodavur in the district. When then traffic PSI Mahadevappa Diddimane and staff were on their regular vehicle check up at Kalmadi in Malpe Police Station limit and stopped the three motor-borne persons for check up on May 31 2014 at 11.25 pm, the convicted tried to assault the PSI and other staff against check up. Then Udupi division incharge ASP Annamalai who was on the rounds, came to the spot. But neglecting Annamalai, the convicted snatched the alcohol checking device from the PSI and smashed it and obstructed the police from discharging their duty. Based on the complaint given by Annamalai, a case was registered at Malpe police station. Then Udupi Circle Inspector Srikanth investigated the incident and submitted the charge sheet to the court.

After hearing the arguments, Additional JMFC court judge Manjunath MS declared the three as guilty in the case and convicted them for six months imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1000 under IPC Column 353 and 34 on May 1. Public prosecutor Mumtaz argued in favour of the government.

Dakshina Kannada (PTI): Over 20 people were injured in multiple-vehicle collisions involving a private bus, a KSRTC bus, and a car near Addahole on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, police said on Saturday.

Most of the injured were in the private bus that overturned after losing control and collided with the KSRTC bus. The private bus was carrying a group of college students from Bengaluru. They were returning from a trip to Kundapur. A car trailing behind also crashed into the KSRTC bus, resulting in a chain collision.

The injured were rushed to private hospitals in Nelyadi and Kadaba for first aid, while several were referred to Puttur for advanced treatment.

The Uppinangady police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
