Belthangady, July 11: Venur police have arrested two persons under POSCO act for allegedly raping two sisters repeatedly on the pretext of marriage.
The arrested have been identified as Sharat (21), a resident of Mala; and Sulker's Prakash (23). The accused have been produced before the court and the court has remanded them to 15-day judicial custody.
According to a complaint filed by the victims’ parents at Venur police station, two sisters aged 17 and 15 were residing in their uncle's house and going to work at a factory. It is said that two young men who are distant relatives of the victims used to visit the home. The duo kept on outraging the girls’ modesty for long on the pretext of marriage.
The police conducted the inquiry of the victims and handed over to Child Line. Based on the complaint filed by the girls’ parents, the police registered a case under the POSCO Act.

Mangaluru: Mustafa Bengre has been unanimously elected as the District President of the Students Islamic Organisation of India, Dakshina Kannada Unit (SIO DK), for the 2026 term. The election was conducted through an internal organisational process, led by SIO Karnataka State Secretary Sufyan Zain.
Mustafa Bengre holds a BBA degree from Mangalore University and is a resident of Kasba Bengre in Mangaluru. He is currently working as a sales executive at Vibro Aqua.
He has previously served as the District Secretary of SIO Dakshina Kannada, City Secretary of SIO Mangaluru and has been actively involved in several social service initiatives in Bengre and across the Dakshina Kannada district.
