Udupi: A 69-year-old man from Udupi has fallen victim to a cyber fraud that resulted in a loss of Rs 3,83,800, following a single click on an APK file received via WhatsApp.

In a complaint, K. Jayaram reportedly explained that he had received an APK file on WhatsApp on November 28. Trusting the source, he clicked on the file, unknowingly triggering a series of fraudulent transactions. A total of Rs 3,83,800 was siphoned from various savings accounts linked to his bank details and transferred into the fraudster's account.

The senior citizen became aware of the unauthorised transactions only after receiving an alert message later that day. Alarmed by the sudden deductions, he filed a complaint with the Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) station in Udupi.

A case has been registered under Sections 66 D of IT ACT and 318(2) of Bharartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
