Udupi: Udupi District Court on Tuesday senteced three accused to life imprisonment in the landmark Bhaskar Shetty murder case of 2016. The accused include Bhaskar Shetty's wife Rajeshwari Shetty, son Navneet Shetty and astrologer Niranjan Bhat.

The verdict was pronounced by District Court Judge Subramanya JS. Raghuvendra, who was accused of destroying evidences in the case, has been acquitted by the Court.

On behalf of the prosecution, Special Government Prosecutor Shantaram Shetty presented arguments.

Prime accused of the case, Rajeshwari Shetty was currently out on bail while Navneet and Niranjan are lodged in Bengaluru jail. Another accused of destroying evidences, Niranjan Bhat's father Srinivas Bhat died due to health issues during the investigation, he had secured bail in the case.

Hyderabad: A Muslim delivery worker was brutally assaulted in Hyderabad’s Old City on Tuesday night, allegedly after being questioned about his name and religion.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Nadeem, a resident of Talab Katta, was attacked at Moghalpura while delivering a parcel to Sultan Shahi. According to reports, unidentified assailants stopped Nadeem, asked about his identity, and then launched a violent assault.

Nadeem sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Osmania Hospital for treatment. After receiving first aid, he attempted to visit the Moghalpura Police Station to lodge a complaint but reportedly collapsed en route and was readmitted to the hospital.

Amjadullah Khan, spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), met the injured youth and demanded police action against the attackers.

The Moghalpura Police have registered a case under Sections 117(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (BNS) Act. The identities of the attackers are yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway.
