Udupi: Following a resolution passed during one of its earlier meetings, officials of Udupi City Council on Saturday demolished a building that allegedly was constructed illegally without acquiring adequate permissions.
The building was owned by SDPI District President Nazeer Ambagilu and was being operated as a restaurant.
Nazeer had successfully contested the demolition drive by the council in 2018 and had secured a stay order from the Karnataka High Court. Council officials said the stay was no longer in place and demolished the building after serving a notice to the business owners of the restaurant.
Heavy police deployment was in place ahead of the operation and senior officials of the administration including Tahsildar and Council’s Commissioner were present at the demolition site.
