Udupi, October 08: SP Lakshman B. Nimbargi on Monday suspended two police constables citing dereliction of duty in the escape case of an under trial.

The suspended police constables are identified as Uday Kumar of Byndoor police station and Gopal H. of the District Armed Reserve Police Force.

On October 6, Suresh Marathi (26) an under trial escaped from the police custody after jumping from a moving train while he was being brought back to the Karwar Jail, after being presented for trial at  Udupi Special Court in a POCSO case, reported from the Byndoor police station limits.

Prima facie, both the police constables were found guilty of negligence in their duty and hence were being suspended from service. The Police are searching for the escaped under trial but, are yet to get any significant lead, the SP said.

Jamshedpur (PTI): One person was arrested on the charge of raping a 30-year-old woman with speech impairment in Jamshedpur, a police officer said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the Azadnagar police station area of the city, and a case in this regard was registered based on the statement of the victim's brother on Monday.

The victim had gone to fetch water from the premises of a company on Monday evening. When she did not return even after a considerable time, family members went out in search of her and caught the accused red-handed, police said.

The accused was a caretaker of the company.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Patamda) Bachandeo Kujjur said due to scarcity of water in the area, the victim used to fetch water from the premises of the company.
