Udupi, August 15: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic zeal in Udupi today when rains gave a break after four days today.
District in-charge Minister and Minister for Women and Child Welfare Jayamala hoisted the tricolour and received the guard of honor.
The minister also felicitated the Kannada and English medium students who topped the district in the SSLC and PUC examinations this year.
The number of public and students participating in the ceremony was less due to rain. Officials were present in large numbers.

Also going unsold were New Zealand batting stars Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips.
South African veteran Faf du Plessis and West Indies' Rovman Powell were bought for Rs two crore and Rs 1.50 crore by Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively, but seasoned India batter Ajinkya Rahane went unsold.
The unsold players can find buyers later in the day during the accelerated auction if their names are given by the franchises.
