Udupi: Three persons were detained by Udupi Town Police following two separate incidents of clashes between drivers and conductors of private bus transport companies in the town on Friday, allegedly triggered by disputes over bus timings.
In the first incident, an argument broke out between Vikhyath, a driver with Seema bus transport company, Sharan, a conductor from the same company, and Hemanth, a conductor of Tanveer bus transport. Police said the dispute began over bus timing issues and soon escalated into verbal abuse and a physical scuffle.
Udupi Town Police intervened after being alerted and took all three men into custody. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate and more serious incident later in the day, a fight erupted at the service bus stand in Udupi involving staff from two other transport companies. Police said Saddam, a driver with Celina bus transport, allegedly got into a heated argument with Riyaz, an employee of Navadurga bus transport, and verbally abused him.
During the altercation, Saddam allegedly attacked Riyaz with a screwdriver, stabbing him above the left eye. Riyaz reportedly tried to flee, but Saddam is said to have chased him, blocked his way and attempted to stab him again, also issuing threats.
Riyaz sustained serious injuries and was shifted to the Udupi District Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Udupi Town Police have registered a separate FIR in connection with the second incident and are investigating the matter.

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi Police has busted an LPG cylinder hoarding and black marketing racket in the Bawana area, an officer said on Friday.
A 50-year-old man, identified as Anil, has been arrested and 75 cylinders seized, he said.
The accused was apprehended following a tip-off about the illegal storage and transportation of LPG cylinders in the industrial area.
Acting on the input, a police team laid a picket near District Park in Bawana on Thursday evening. Around 4 pm, a pickup truck was intercepted and checked, leading to the recovery of 27 LPG cylinders, including both domestic and commercial units.
"When questioned, the accused failed to produce any valid documents, including a licence, permit, stock register or proof of ownership for the cylinders," the officer said.
During interrogation, Anil revealed that more cylinders were stored at nearby premises. Based on his disclosure, police raided two rooms and an iron shed near a factory in the area.
"A total of 48 additional cylinders were recovered, taking the overall seizure to 75. The cylinders were stored without safety measures or legal authorisation, posing a serious risk," the officer said.
Disruptions in maritime supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing US-Israel and Iran conflict have caused an LPG crisis in India.
