Bajpe: An incident of an unidentified individual stabbing and injuring a 23-year-old youth who was on his way back home after playing in the ground was reported on Sunday evening here at Kalavaru under the Surathkal police station limits.
The injured youth has been identified as Safwan (23) a resident of Shanthigudde, Bajpe Kalavaru.
The assailant reportedly stabbed Safwan on his neck, hand and back. It has been learnt that the injured who was initially admitted to a private hospital in Bajpe was later shifted to Mangaluru.
The incident allegedly took place as Safwan, who was on his way home after playing with friends, was reportedly stabbed by another local youth.
There have been reports of an assault case involving an individual addicted to alcohol in the Kalawaru area over the past few days. A case regarding the incident was also filed. Meanwhile the locals expressed suspicion that the stabbing that occurred today might have taken place in this context. Sources also revealed that Surathkal Police had stationed officers in response to the initial attacks, but they were notably absent today.
Surathkal Police have reached the spot and are investigating the matter further details regarding the incident is yet to be made available.

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) (PTI): Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, police said.
The exchange of fire broke out in a forest along the Indravati river in the morning when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Naxalite operation, a senior police official said.
After guns fell silent, bodies of two Naxalites, clad in uniform, along with a Self-Loading Rifle, an Insas rifle and a 12-bore rifle were recovered from the spot, he said.
Search operation was still underway, he added.
With this action, at least 25 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in the state so far this year.
Earlier, 14 Maoists were gunned down in two encounters on January 3 in the Bastar region, which comprises seven districts, including Bijapur.
Last year, 285 Maoists were killed in various encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh.
The Centre has set a deadline of March 31 this year to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism from the country.
