Uttara Kannada DC extends holiday for schools and colleges till Thursday due to heavy rain
Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Harish Kumar on Wednesday extended holiday for all the schools and colleges in the District on 8 August Thursday in the wake of continuous rainfall in the District.
All the schools and colleges in the District remained closed on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall in the District from last few days, the holiday was on Wednesday extended till Thursday after Deputy Commissioner issued orders in this regard.
“All the schools, colleges (including PU and Degree Colleges) in the District will remain closed on Thursday due to heavy rain in the District” a Uttara Kannada DC office official told Vartha Bharati over phone.

Yogish Goudar murder case: Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni, 16 others sentenced to life imprisonment

Bengaluru: A special court for people’s representatives has sentenced Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of BJP leader Yogish Goudar.
The verdict was delivered by judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat. The court had earlier, on Wednesday, held all 17 accused guilty of murdering Goudar, while reserving the quantum of punishment.
On Friday, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to all the convicted persons in the case.
Yogish Goudar, a BJP member from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency in Dharwad district, was murdered in 2016.
