Bantwal: Vitla police on Thursday night arrested two persons, including a Bajrang Dal activist, for allegedly transporting animals illegally to a slaughterhouse in Kerala.
Bajrang Dal activist Shashikumar (48), a resident of Vitla Padnur village; and Abdul Haris (21), a resident of Kolnadu village; have been arrested. The accused were arrested at Kadambu in Vitla Padnur village at around 11 pm yesterday.

The Vitla police launched the operation based on specific information that the animals were being transported illegally in a vehicle from Vitla to a slaughterhouse in Kerala. The police intercepted and checked vehicles at Kadambu junction at around 11 pm. Four cattle and a calf were found illegally and violently transported in a vehicle, police informed.
The value of the cattle and vehicle has been estimated to Rs. Five lakh. The two accused Sashikumar and Haris who were in the vehicle have been arrested in this connection.
"While Shashikumar is an activist of Bajrang Dal, a case was registered against Abdul Haris at Konaje station over his involvement in a cow theft case. As per their need, the vehicle used for transporting cattle was modified in such a way that no one could suspect the crime, DK District SP Ravikanthe Gowda informed.
Vitla Police Station Deputy Inspector Nagaraj H.E. And constables Abhijit, Lokesh, Ramesh, Rakshat and driver Raghuram, took part in the operation.

Kalaburagi: Members of the Kalyana Karnataka Pratyeka Rajya Horata Samiti, who staged a protest in the city on Friday morning demanding a separate state, were taken into custody by the police.
The members of the committee, led by President MS Patil Naribola, protested at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Circle in the city. The office-bearers hoisted a red flag as a part of the protest and shouted a slogan stating their demand for a new state named ‘Kalyana Karnataka’.
The city police intervened and took into custody Naribola and Laxmikanth Sadhvi, among other leaders of the movement.
