Mangaluru: A day before the New Year celebration begins, Dr. PS Harsha, Mangaluru Police Commissioner issued an advisory to the party and celebration organisers to ensure public safety and maintain law and order on New Year’s eve.

In the advisory the Police Commissioner has directed hotels, resorts and other private entities to acquire adequate permissions from all the departments including the police department before organizing any parties and celebrations. He has further directed the organisers to wind up the parties and celebration by 12:05 am with an exemption of another fifteen minutes for dispersal of the crowd.

He has urged the organisers to possess written permission from all the concerned departments including excise and police during the parties and to adhere by all the instructions and directions by all the respective departments.

Addressing the issue of women safety during the New Year celebrations the police commissioner has warned people against eve teasing and harassing women and has promised strict action against those found guilty in anyuch activities. He has further asked the organisers to ensure all precautionary and security measures including installation of CCTV Cameras and fire safety equipments at the party venues. The Police Chief has also sought deployment of women volunteers at the venue to avoid any untoward incident with women and to ensure their safety.

"The department will not take any case with regard to women safety, lightly. It will be dealt strictly and the violators and exploiters will be tried under strictest possible laws" Dr. Harsha said.

He also informed that the ladies police team of Mangaluru named Abbaka Pade, will be patrolling the city and will also be deployed at the events to keep vigilance on eve teasers.

He also urged the people to follow traffic rules and to not drink and drive.

He further added that the liquor shops should be closed before 11 pm on December 31 and those willing to keep their shops open till 12:00 am should acquire permission from excise department.

Vehicles parking, entries to minor at the parties and event were among other issues he discussed in the advisory. He added that entry to minors at the party and celebrations should be strictly restricted unless accompanied by their parents.

Bengaluru (PTI): Power bills for consumers under the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) will go up from May 1, following an order issued by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on Friday.

The hike comes after KERC allowed the BESCOM to recover a revenue deficit of Rs 2,068 crore incurred in 2024-25, from the consumers.

As a result, for every unit of electricity consumed in 2024-25, the customers will be charged an additional 56 paise, it said.

"BESCOM shall calculate, for each of the active consumers of FY2024-25 the amount to be recovered based on their actual energy consumption during FY2024-25. Such amount shall be recovered during FY 2026-27 in equal monthly instalments, to be called as 'FY25 True up Charges', commencing from the first meter reading date falling on or after 1 May 2026 and concluding with the reading date ending on 30 April 2027," the order said.

"It is further ordered that BESCOM shall maintain a separate head of account, allocated for the purpose, to record the adjustment of the said amount to ensure full recovery of the deficit," it added.

Similarly Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) has also recorded a revenue deficit of Rs 121.71 crore and can collect an additional 15 paisa per unit for consumption in 2024-25, official sources said.
