Mangaluru: Karnataka Minister for Higher Education Dr. Ashwathnarayan on Monday inaugurated the new building of the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management College here in the city.
During his address on the occasion the minister lauded the efforts of the institution in imparting knowledge and education with values at a time when the educational institutions face several challenges due to the competitiveness in the sector.
“The educational institutions face the mighty challenge of facing the competitive era of the present. As it is essential to provide quality education amid this, the Yenepoya Educational Institution has been doing a good job in this regard”, he said.
He also spoke about the new National Education Policy and added it was conducive to the bright future of the country.
“Karnataka is at the forefront when it comes to the implementation of NEP.” He said.
Yenepoya (deemed) University’s Chancellor Dr. Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi presided over the inaugural event. MLAs U.T Khader, Dr. Bharath Shetty, MCC Mayor Jayanand Anchan, and MCC member Kiran Kumar among several others were present.
The President of the Yenepoya Group of Institutions, Yenepoya Muhammed Kunhi participated as the guest of honour during the occasion.
The University’s registrar Dr. K. S. Gangadhar Somayaaji, Vice Chancellor Dr. M. Vijay Kumar, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. B. H. Shri Pati Rao were present.
While the Principal of the College, Dr. Arun Bhagavath delivered the welcome address, Vice Principal Shareen A. was the program presenter.
The NSS units of the University conducted a simultaneous blood donation drive as part of the 75th birthday celebration of Dr. Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi. The education institutions at Kulur, Mudipu, and Kinya under Yenepoya University organized the blood donation drive on Monday.

Kyiv (AP): Eight people were killed and 27 wounded in a Russian missile strike on port infrastructure in Odesa, southern Ukraine, late on Friday, Ukraine's Emergency Service said on Saturday morning.
Some of the wounded were on a bus at the epicentre of the overnight strike, the service said in a Telegram post. Trucks caught fire in the parking lot, and cars were also damaged.
The port was struck with ballistic missiles, said Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa region.

Elsewhere, Ukrainian forces hit a Russian warship and other facilities with drones, Ukraine's General Staff said in a statement on Saturday.
The nighttime attack on Friday hit the Russian warship “Okhotnik,” according to the statement posted to the Telegram messaging app.
The ship was patrolling in the Caspian Sea near an oil and gas production platform. The extent of the damage is still being clarified, the statement added.
A drilling platform at the Filanovsky oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea was also hit. The facility is operated by Russian oil giant Lukoil. Ukrainian drones also struck a radar system in the Krasnosilske area of Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed from Ukraine in 2014.
